Houwzer is the industry’s first full-service residential real estate brokerage with a 0% listing commission model. Yup, that’s right, you save the entire 3% commission. We also did away with the misaligned commission structure that often pits agents against the best interest of their customer. Experiencing first hand the expenses of paying listing agents huge commission checks, Co-Founder and home developer Kevin Baird and CEO and Co-Founder Mike Maher set off to revolutionize brokerage for good. They asked themselves at the completion of transactions, does it really cost 6% to sell a home? Sensing that a change needed to be made, the two began to develop a model that would disrupt the real estate industry and make brokerage more efficient. Powered by technology, backed by our six core values – Honesty, Trust, Transparency, Reliability, Expertise, and Customer-focus – and driven by our goal to help consumers Find a Better Way Home, Houwzer was born.
We started our full-service brokerage in the spring of 2014. We launched our business and website to the public on February 16, 2015 and this feature article appeared in the Philadelphia Inquirer less than one week later. In the last year, we’ve had enormous success, brokering more than 60 transactions, saving consumers almost $500,000, and working with top agents across the Greater Philadelphia Area.

The only fee we charge is $495 and it’s collected at closing. We only collect the fee if we successfully sell your home and it’s used to cover the cost associated with listing a house. These costs include signage, 25 HD photos of your home as well as a virtual walkthrough, home showings, open houses, search engines, etc. Traditional brokers (like Berkshire Hathaway, Coldwell Banker, Keller Williams) charge the full 3% commission on the selling price of your home as well as a $399+ administration fee at closing.
We are a full-service brokerage (like Berkshire Hathaway, Coldwell Banker, Keller Williams) but the way we do things is a little bit differently than the other guys. All of our listing and buyer agents are salaried employees of Houwzer. Our entire team works seamlessly together on behalf of every one of our clients. Traditional broker agents are set up as independent contractors who serve only their own clients. This current set-up often misaligns the interests of the agents and the consumers.

We promise a best-in-class, full-service brokerage that saves our customers thousands of dollars, and provides an excellent home buying or selling experience. In exchange we ask our customers to actively share their experience with friends, family, and colleagues. Social currency saves us exponential time, money, and resources on marketing, allowing us to maintain our 0% listing agent commission structure. It also creates transparency and trust in an industry that is guided by murkiness and skepticism.
Buyer agent’s interests should always be 100% aligned with their client, and not with the listing agent’s interests. Unlike the current outdated and misaligned commission structure, which often pits the best interest of the consumer against that of the agent, Houwzer agents are compensated for how well they satisfy customer demands. Houwzer agents are interested in helping customers find their dream home, and not motivated by a larger commission check yielded from a higher price tag.
Houwzer earns commissions by representing buyers. However, all of our real estate agents are paid salaries and customer satisfaction bonuses, not direct commissions. This enables Houwzer to operate much more efficiently than traditional brokerages, and at the same time, fully align with the best interest of our customers.
